Statistics – Become a Basketball Statistician

What is a Basketball Statistician?

A Basketball Statistician is an official responsible for recording all actions of both teams during a game. This critical role requires precision and teamwork, with statisticians working together to document every aspect of the game.

Typically, at least two statisticians officiate each game:

  • Caller: Observes the on-court action and verbalizes the events to the team.

  • Computer Operator: Inputs the actions into the statistics program in real time.

  • Spotter (optional): Assists by clarifying or identifying missed actions.
