Scoretable Officials – Your Role in the Game
In higher-level basketball games, the scoretable team plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of the game. The team consists of five specific positions:

-
Chairperson
-
Scorer
-
Assistant Scorer
-
Timekeeper
-
24-Second Shot Clock Operator

Scoretable officials work closely with referees to maintain accurate scoring and timekeeping, ensuring the game runs seamlessly.

Key Responsibilities of Each Scoretable Position

-
Chairperson: Oversees the scoretable’s operations, ensuring efficiency and clear communication with referees.
-
Scorer: Accurately completes the scoresheet.
-
Assistant Scorer: Assists with operating the scoreboard, when required.
-
Timekeeper: Manages the game clock and, in most cases, the scoreboard.
-
24-Second Shot Clock Operator: Controls the shot clock, resetting and stopping it in line with game rules.

In higher-level basketball, teams have a maximum of 24 seconds to attempt a shot after gaining possession of the ball. If a shot misses but the team rebounds the ball, the shot clock resets to 14 seconds. The shot clock operates on a separate display and is controlled by the shot clock operator.

At the community level, the use of a shot clock may not be required, simplifying the scoretable team’s duties.
